Anyone just putting a palette together runs into the same question: which shades to buy first. This set answers it by covering the basic range of the color wheel and adding the two colors of flesh and wood that are hardest to mix. Eight bottles are therefore enough for a first figure, a first vehicle and for trying out how the shades react with one another.
Mixing is half the benefit here. Yellow with blue gives a whole range of greens, magenta with red shifts the shade toward pink, and bone lightens practically anything without bleaching the color to chalk the way pure white does. Brown, by contrast, mutes tones that are too loud.
These are opaque acrylics thinnable with water. They are applied with a brush and with an airbrush, and once dry they stay matte. It is advisable to work over a base coat, because acrylic holds less well directly on bare plastic and rubs off during handling. The shades mix with one another without trouble and also take layering over one another as glazes.
