A set of laser-cut paper monstera leaves for creating vegetation in dioramas. The characteristically slit leaf of this plant is unmistakable and places a scene in the tropics or in an interior at once. At the same time the paper is so thin that, once painted and shaped, the leaf looks real, which cannot be said of cast plastic ones.
The leaves are taken out of the sheet, painted on both sides, shaped and glued onto a stem made of wire or straight into the scene. Monstera suits dioramas of Southeast Asia and the Pacific, greenhouses, hotel and office interiors and modern civilian scenes, where this plant in a pot is an almost obligatory prop.
Paint them while still in the sheet, so that the small leaves do not scatter. Use thinned acrylics and remember that the underside of a leaf is lighter and more matte than the top. Once it has dried, dampen the leaf and shape it over a round object; paper keeps its shape once dry. Suggest the main vein with a thin line and pick a glossy leaf out with a semi-matte varnish.
