Scrapers for cleaning up the traces of mold parting planes on plastic parts. The edge is drawn across the surface and the material comes off as thin shavings.
Responsibility details are not available.
On the parts of injection-molded kits a lengthwise ridge is left after production, running the whole length of a fuselage, a wing or a barrel. Abrasive paper will level it, true, but it also wipes out the engraving around it and on curved surfaces easily creates a flat patch. A scraper works differently: the sharp edge is drawn across the surface at right angles to the ridge and takes off only thin shavings, so the surrounding detail stays untouched.
Rest the part against a surface or hold it in your fingers so that it does not flex. Run the edge of the tool in brisk strokes in one direction and press only lightly; the force is replaced by the number of strokes, not by pressure. Work in short sections and keep checking the surface against the light, as the ridge is easier to see in the reflection than straight on. On curved surfaces keep the edge at right angles at all times, otherwise a flat spot appears. Once the ridge is gone, polish the surface with a fine abrasive and restore any disturbed engraving with a scriber.
For anyone who builds from injection-molded kits and wants clean edges with no intrusion into the surrounding surface. It finds a use on fuselages, wings, barrels and on small parts, where abrasive paper would do more harm than good. Keep the edges sharp and do not use the tool as a lever; a blunt or chipped edge tears the surface instead of smoothing it.
Models, paints and abrasives are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise. The box gives the exact number of pieces in the package.
