The Plannosaurus Ankylosaurus kit from Bandai goes together without glue – you build the skeleton first and then fit the outer body covers onto it.

A kit from the Japanese brand Bandai in the Plannosaurus line, which is built on a simple but clever idea: the skeleton of the animal is put together first and only then are the outer body covers fitted onto it. During the build you can see how the bones and the musculature relate to one another, and the finished model keeps that layering in its proportions. The parts are in color and join by snapping together, so neither glue nor nippers are needed for the assembly.
The Ankylosaurus was one of the armored herbivores of the end of the Mesozoic. Its back and flanks were protected by bony plates, its head by a massive skull, and its tail ended in a club with which the animal defended itself. Building the model turns that description into practice – the armor and the bony reinforcement of the tail are both readable on the parts and explain why the animal is nicknamed a living tank.
Even a younger modeler can manage the assembly, but a few small things will help the result. The movable jaw, neck and limbs will take careful tightening, not force; anyone who wants to put the model into a particular pose should try it out before snapping the joints home for good. Painting is not necessary, and yet the model gains a great deal from dark shading into the gaps between the plates and a dry brush along the edges of the armor. Anyone who wants to go further can paint the skeleton in a bone shade before it is covered.
The model is assembled from color parts by snapping them together; neither paints nor glue are needed to finish it.
