A ratio of sides of almost one to five makes flat bar stock out of this profile. It is used as the planking of sides, a plank of a deck floor, an edging strip around an opening or a band of riveted sheet across a wall. The thin material can even be bent slightly, so it follows a gentle curve. The material is white polystyrene, the stick is 35 cm long and it is sold individually.
A worn coat is not a random stain. It arises in the places a boot walks, where a hand rests, where a load rubs or where an edge knocks into another edge. That is why on a flat strip the wear concentrates along the long edges and around openings, not in the middle of an untouched surface.
The most faithful result comes from working with a sponge: a piece of foam is dipped lightly into a dark tone, wiped dry and then only stippled with. Small irregular dots of various sizes arise, exactly like real chipping. Drawing with a brush, by contrast, comes out as a chain of identical dots and gives itself away at first glance.
The strip is parted with a knife in a single stroke along a ruler and glued butt to butt, because its thin edge is almost lost in the surface of an assembly.
Getting a spare makes sense with this shape. When planking, it is used up faster than anything else, and a join between two parts in the middle of a surface shows even after filling and sanding back.
