A strong square rod 3.2 x 4.0 mm of white polystyrene. Material for load-bearing beams, bases, jigs and blocks that can be drilled and even tapped.
Responsibility details are not available.
A massive section moves the material from the role of cladding into the role of a beam. At dimensions of 3.2 by 4.0 mm, a piece twenty centimeters long already holds its shape on its own and will take the load of further parts. Modelers therefore use it where other profiles work only as a surface: in the frames of larger dioramas, in bases, in the frames under display-case scenes.
The second area is workshop aids. Simple jigs that hold a part at a right angle are glued up from the rod, as are stops for repeated cutting, wedges under a tilted model, or a block into which a pin is inserted so that the model can be held while paint is sprayed. Inside a model it serves as a support for ballast in a ship's bow or as a seat for a magnet. In larger scales it stands in for a real beam: in 1:35 the height works out at roughly fourteen centimeters on the real subject.
For a fine saw the material is already massive; it is better divided with a saw of coarser tooth and the cut is finished slowly so that the plastic does not heat up and melt. It can be drilled into the solid without a backing, and a thread of smaller diameter will hold as well. Sanding can chamfer the section to a wedge or round it off, because there is no cavity inside that would be cut through.
