A hollow square profile with a 4.8 mm outer side. The rod is 35 cm long and is sold one piece at a time.
Responsibility details are not available.
You recognize the hollow at once on the cut: the end does not look like a solid face but like a thin frame. That is exactly what distinguishes a square tube from a solid bar of the same size: it is lighter, it matches real thin-walled structures to the eye and it offers space inside. It serves on railing posts, trailer frames, scaffolding parts, fencing, masts and telescopic arms.
The outer side of the square measures 4.8 millimeters, the rod is 35 centimeters long and it is ordered as individual pieces. The opening in the middle allows a steel wire to be threaded through to give a long part rigidity, or an optical fiber run to a lamp at the top of a mast.
Cutting with a fine-toothed saw works out better on a hollow wall than snapping, because otherwise the edge easily gets pushed inward. The burr that forms is removed from the inside with a drill bit turned between your fingers. Ends that are to stay visible can be capped with a piece of thin sheet and sanded away to nothing, so that no trace of the seam remains.
Store the rod lying flat in a tube or along the edge of a shelf so that it does not bow under its own weight over time. If it does bow, straightening it under a light weight at room temperature helps.
For the same outer size a tube gives you lower weight and a faster-setting joint, because the glue does not have to pass through the whole volume. The price for that is sensitivity to pressure: gripping it in an over-tightened clamp leaves a mark on the wall that is then hard to smooth out.
