A styrene profile with an I section 4 mm high. One rod measures 35 cm, and it is sold by the piece.
Responsibility details are not available.
The thicker variant of the modeling I profile is aimed at places where a smaller size would not visually carry the load. In the large scales it makes the frame rails of a truck, the door posts of a locomotive depot, the runway of a gantry crane or the beams under a loading ramp. Four millimeters of height guarantee that the edges stay legible even after spraying, weathering and a pass with a dry brush.
One piece is a rod 35 centimeters long, and that is the unit it is sold in. The material is uniform along its whole length, so even after being cut in the middle the section stays exactly the same as at the original end.
Assemble longer structures step by step and check dry in advance whether anything is drifting out of line. Improvised clamps from clothes pegs or paper clips serve well. If you want to curve the girder into an arc, dip it in hot water for a moment and bend it over a suitable tube; it will hold the shape once it cools. Imitation rivets come from tiny drops of glue applied with the tip of a needle.
A light base makes covering with pale shades easier, and dark tones sit on it without trouble as well. Anyone after the impression of rusting steel can roughen the surface lightly with a sanding sponge before spraying.
Long rods travel in a protective tube, but check them against the light after unpacking. A slight bow disappears if you lay the piece on a flat board for a few hours and weigh it down with a book. Badly deformed material, on the other hand, would put a curve into the whole structure even if it were carefully glued.
