PS17 Metallic Green Spray

Tamiya PS-17 Metallic Green, a metallic spray of 100 ml

A green metallic shade from the Tamiya PS line. It is a lacquer with a metal pigment, formulated for the flexible polycarbonate bodies of radio-controlled models. It is not intended for styrene plastic kits. The can holds 100 ml and it sprays straight, with no thinning and no mixing with other paints.

Working with metallic paint

• The metal pigment settles to the bottom, so shake the can longer than you would an ordinary paint and mix it again between individual passes
• The metallic effect comes out on a smooth surface, so the inside of the body has to be clean and degreased, because every fingerprint will show up in the sheen
• Spray with an even movement and without stopping, otherwise you get a streak with a different pigment density that can no longer be hidden
• Metallic paint is hard to overspray and to mask, so plan it as one of the last colors in the sequence
• Check the density by looking from the outside of the body, because that is the side the model will be seen from

Who it is for

For builders of radio-controlled cars who want a body with depth and sheen instead of a flat color. Metallic green suits retro schemes as well as modern designs where one large area has to carry the whole impression. Count on metallic coats being more prone to unevenness, so it pays to practice the stroke on an offcut.

Safety at work: a flammable aerosol under pressure. Spray only in a well ventilated space or outdoors, away from open flame and hot surfaces, with a respirator and eye protection. Keeping a distance of roughly 25 to 30 centimeters holds an even spray pattern, and make a test spray on a scrap piece before you start, which with metallic paint goes double. Do not pierce or burn the can and do not store it above 40 degrees.
