RAL 8017 ROTBRAUN-RED BROWN – RC MARKER

RC Marker pen in red-brown RAL 8017

This pen from the RC Marker line carries a rich red-brown tone listed under the number RAL 8017. The tip spreads the paint directly, so there is no brush and no palette to deal with and the pen is ready at once. It comes into its own on edges, on small parts and when touching up brown areas, where preparing paint would hardly pay off.

What the number RAL 8017 says

RAL is the German standard of color shades and a number in it stands for one specific tone. The first digit determines the group, and the browns start with an eight. RAL 8017, named Rotbraun, belongs among the rich red-brown tones. With brown shades the number matters more than a verbal description, because several similarly named tones sit side by side. Brown of this kind forms the patches of multicolor camouflage in modeling, the brown parts of equipment and the darker earthy areas of bases.

How to work with the pen

• Test the shade first on a scrap of plastic or in a place that will not be visible on the finished model.
• Apply a thin layer and let it dry; a second pass deepens the tone.
• Draw the tip in one direction; going over a layer that has not dried wipes the paint away.
• On a clean, degreased matte base the paint holds more reliably than on a smooth gloss.
• Wipe the tip after work and close the pen carefully so that it does not dry out.
• For thinning, cleaning and any clear coating, follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.
