Polystyrene is easy to cut with a sharp knife or a saw and is glued with ordinary plastic cement (solvent-based), which welds the joint firmly; super glue holds as well. Level the ends by sanding. The material can be shaped with gentle heat and painted just like plastic models, ideally with a primer coat before the topcoat.
