Roll ROD II from the Czech maker 3Detail is a jig for rolling photo-etched parts into tubes and curves. It is another version in the same range, complementing the possibilities for forming cylindrical sections.
Responsibility details are not available.
The jig serves to turn a flat photo-etched part into a cylinder or a smooth curve. That is a shape which cannot be made with a bending tool with a sharp edge. It comes into its own on tube structures, exhausts, tanks and casings, and everywhere a photo-etched set expects you to roll a part yourself. The number in the name distinguishes this version from the other jigs of the same range in the manufacturer's lineup.
The key to a handsome cylinder is going slowly. Roll the part in short strokes and reduce the diameter gradually, instead of trying to reach the shape in one pass. Metal always opens up a little once released, so allow for that and run the shape down to a smaller diameter than you need. If the material goes stiffly, anneal it briefly over a flame and let it cool; that softens brass considerably. Join a closed seam with a drop of superglue or a small amount of solder and sand the excess away.
The tool works with thin metal parts. Keep out of the reach of children. For the range of diameters it will form, follow the data given by the manufacturer on the packaging.
