About product

A texture rolling pin with a paving pattern

Paving a surface stone by stone is work for long evenings and the result still does not come out regular. A texture rolling pin gets around that problem: you run it over soft compound and the paving pattern is pressed in all at once, across the whole width and with a constant spacing. The resulting surface is regular where it should be and at the same time has real relief, which a wash and pigment will then catch in. For a diorama it is one of the few tools that really saves a lot of time and improves the result at the same time.

Use

  • Roll the compound out to an even layer, as an uneven layer gives an unevenly deep pattern.
  • Dampen or oil the rolling pin and the compound lightly so that they do not stick.
  • Run it over evenly and in one direction, as going over it again smears the pattern.
  • Overlap adjoining areas at a joint, where the transition is least noticeable.
  • Break up a few stones with a tip after pressing, as perfectly regular paving looks artificial.
  • Wash the rolling pin after work, as compound dried in the pattern will print a fault next time.

Who it is for

The rolling pin suits diorama builders, figure painters who make bases, and railroad modelers. It is used on modeling compounds and texture pastes, so you need to have at hand the material the pattern will be pressed into. Try the pattern out on a piece of compound first, and only then press it into the surface.

Store the tool in a dry place and out of the reach of children. Modeling compound is not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Into modeling compound or texture paste, while it is still soft. The rolling pin does not create the surface on its own; you have to have the material.

Overlap them at a joint between stones, where the transition is least noticeable. A straight transition across the middle of a stone would show.

Perfectly regular paving looks artificial. Break up a few stones with a tip after pressing and the surface comes to life at once.
