A diamond file differs from an ordinary needle file in principle: it has no cut teeth but abrasive grains applied to the body of the tool. Thanks to that it can cope even with materials on which a steel file slides or quickly goes blunt — with resin, hard putties, photo-etched parts, metal and the flash left by cutting. This set contains five such files.
On soft polystyrene a diamond file has no advantage; it rather clogs quickly. It pays off where an ordinary file fails: leveling a casting block on a resin part, cleaning up an edge after nipping photo-etched metal, adjusting a hole in a metal part, removing the remains of cyanoacrylate glue that has hardened like glass. It also leaves a finer mark, so less work with abrasive paper is left afterwards.
Modelers who build resin sets and multimedia kits, work with photo-etched parts or add metal features to models. They also serve in removing dried glue and putty, where an ordinary file would only slide.
Tools for adult users. Sanding creates fine dust — work wet or with sufficient ventilation and protect your airways.
