Shock Bolt Thin - flexible thin super glue, 14.2 g (BOLT)

Shock Bolt Thin from BOLT is a super glue (cyanoacrylate) in a 14.2 g package. It is a clear, low-viscosity modified ethyl cyanoacrylate, that is, a modeling chemical product, not a kit.

What Thin means, a thin glue

A thin cyanoacrylate has a consistency close to water. It is not applied before the parts are joined but onto a joint that is already in place and seated: you press the parts together, put a drop of glue on the edge of the seam and it runs inside by capillary action along the whole length of the joint. As a result it does not stand proud anywhere, leaves no lumps and does not flood detail. The condition is a tightly fitting joint; the manufacturer states use for a maximum gap of 0.1 mm. Where the seam is wider, a thicker version of the glue belongs.

What Shock means, a flexible, impact-resistant joint

An ordinary cyanoacrylate is hard and brittle once set: the joint holds firmly in tension, but it cracks under an impact or a bend. Shock Bolt Thin is a modified, flexible formulation: the joint is more resistant to impact, to vibration and to thermal shock. That is the main thing it adds over an ordinary super glue, and it is worth having anywhere the model takes a knock.

Use

• Materials on which cement for plastic does not work: resin, metal, photo-etched parts, 3D prints.
• Curing happens within 1 to 3 seconds; it bonds glass, metal, rubber, wood and plastics.
• Parts loaded by vibration and impact: RC and slot models, moving and loaded assemblies.
• Bonding tires onto rims on car models, where the joint works and is loaded.
• The curing speed can be raised with an activator (a kicker); an unwanted joint or residue is dissolved by a cyanoacrylate debonder.
• It does not bond PTFE and similar materials of low adhesion.

Who it is for

For modelers who build from resin, metal, etched parts or 3D prints, and for anyone who needs a joint resistant to impact. On purely plastic kits a thin cement for plastic remains the mainstay; cyanoacrylate steps in where cement for plastic has nothing to dissolve.

Safety: the glue bonds skin and fingers instantly, so work carefully and keep a debonder at hand; never pull bonded skin apart by force. The vapors irritate the eyes and the airways: work in a well ventilated space, use eye protection and do not lean over the joint. Store closed, cool and dry and out of the reach of children.
