Three shades for Soviet fighter aircraft of the closing phase of the Second World War: the light blue AMT-7, the blue-gray AMT-11 and the dark gray AMT-12.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set brings together the shades with which the fighters of the Soviet Air Force were covered from 1943 on. It holds the light blue AMT-7, the blue-gray AMT-11 and the dark gray AMT-12. It was precisely this combination that replaced the older black-green scheme and appeared on machines of the Yak and Lavochkin types as well as on aircraft delivered under allied aid, which were resprayed into home colors.
The letters AMT denoted Soviet nitrocellulose matte lacquers for wooden and fabric skins; the number after them is the sequential designation of the shade in the wartime color card. The lower surfaces carried the light blue, the upper surfaces a two-color gray disruptive pattern. For a modeler the essential point is that the original was markedly matte and faded quickly, so references from photographs differ considerably between machines.
Before spraying, the pigment has to be stirred up from the bottom, as it settles quickly with the gray tones. On the real machines the transitions between the upper shades were sprayed without a template, so a soft edge laid down with the airbrush held close matches the subject better than a sharp transition along tape. Let the coat dry before the gloss clear coat for the decals goes on.
Do not mix the shades with a binder of a different chemical family until you have checked on a test part that the film does not tear. And do not rely on one set covering a whole machine: the metal leading edges, the propeller and the interior have colors of their own that are not in these three.
