Spot-On Pigment No. 17 Dark Old Rust

A loose modeling pigment from the numbered Spot-On line by VMS. The item carries the sequence number No. 17 and the shade name Dark Old Rust, that is a dark old rust. Within the line it follows on from the other rust shades, so corrosion can be built up step by step from the darkest tone to lighter and fresher ones.

Use

• The basic dark layer of old corrosion on surfaces that have been without a protective coat for a long time.
• Darkening the bottom of rust craters and the places where corrosion reaches deeper into the material.
• Rust traces around welds, rivets and seams, from where they run down vertical surfaces.
• A complement to the shades No. 18 and No. 19 when layering corrosion into several tones.

Work tips

Rust never has a single shade. The most convincing result comes about by laying the darkest tone first and only in the places where corrosion would be oldest, and only then adding lighter, more orange shades over a smaller area. Break up the transitions between the tones with a dry brush so that no sharp boundaries appear. On vertical surfaces, apply the material from the top down, that is in the direction in which it would run.
