About product

OILBRUSHER Steel - AMMO of Mig Jimenez metallic oil paint, 10 ml

Steel from the OILBRUSHER range is an oil paint of 10 ml; the cap of the bottle carries a fine brush, so you transfer the paint to the model directly, with no palette. It is not a kit - it is a modeling paint, that is a chemical product. The shade matches bare steel: it is lighter and cooler than gun metal, but nowhere near as bright as aluminum.

When to choose Steel over the neighboring shades

Steel is the shade of freshly exposed iron. Reach for it on worn places on armor and on edges, on the contact faces of tracks and roadwheels polished down to bare metal, on tools - shovels, crowbars, axe heads - and on blades and cutting edges. Where metal should look dark and blackened (gun barrels, breeches), use Gun Metal; where a surface should be markedly light and bright like aircraft sheet, use Aluminium. Steel stands between them and is the most versatile choice for ground vehicles.

Use

  • Metallic pigment settles to the bottom - always stir the bottle thoroughly before use.
  • Ideal for dry brushing edges and worn places: pick up a little, wipe the excess off and pass lightly over edges, rivets and raised features.
  • It is used for toning, dotting and bringing out detail - not as an opaque coat over a whole area.
  • It dries slowly and stays blendable for a long time, so the effect can be worked on even after a while.
  • It is thinned and blended with odorless thinner, or mineral spirits - water does not work.
  • Apply it over a cured varnished surface, so that the excess can be drawn off safely.

Who the paint is for

For builders of tanks, armored vehicles and dioramas who need convincing wear and metal edges, and for anyone who wants to work with metal without an airbrush.

It contains solvents and is flammable. Use in a well-ventilated area, do not inhale the vapors, protect your skin and airways. Keep out of the reach of children and away from sources of ignition.

FAQ

Steel is freshly exposed steel - wear on armor, edges, tools, blades. Gun Metal is darker and blue-gray and belongs on gun barrels and breeches. Aluminium is the lightest and brightest and is used on bare metal surfaces of aircraft.

Yes. The metallic pigment settles at the bottom of the bottle, so without thorough stirring you will mostly apply binder with no metallic effect.

No, it is an oil paint for weathering and detailing. It serves for toning, dotting and bringing out edges, not for coating a whole model.

Over a cured, ideally varnished surface. It is thinned and blended with odorless thinner or mineral spirits, not with water.
