A spare filter element of the HEPA type for the DSPIAE modeling sanding dust collector. It is a consumable part for a device you already own, and neither the collector itself nor a tool for building a model.

Why a filter gets changed

A dust collector works only as long as air passes through it. Sanding dust from plastic, resin and filler alike is very fine and will gradually clog the filter element. The device then goes on humming, but the suction noticeably weakens and part of the dust that is meant to stay inside returns to the air above the bench. A clogged filter moreover raises the load on the fan.

Fine filter elements cannot, in principle, be cleaned reliably. Knocking them out or blowing them through damages the fibers, and the filter stops catching exactly that finest fraction of dust for which a collector is bought. They are therefore reckoned with as a consumable and are changed for new ones.

Switch the device off and unplug it from the supply before changing. Take the clogged element out carefully, do not knock it out indoors and do not inhale the dust. Before buying, check that the filter answers to your type of collector.
