The book opens a series from the Israeli publisher Desert Eagle Publishing devoted to the wrecks of military vehicles. It came out in 2017, in English, in softcover, runs to eighty-four pages and was prepared by the authors Michael Mass and Adam O'Brien. The photographs were taken on storage and scrapping grounds, so they show the machines without their equipment, with the inner parts exposed and at an advanced stage of corrosion. This is exactly the material that cannot be found in the usual monographs on vehicles in service.
The publication is intended for modelers who build wrecks, abandoned vehicles and dioramas and are looking for documented references for rust, flaking finishes, dusting and the disintegration of detail. Tiran is the designation for captured tanks of Soviet design modified for Israeli service, so the book will also serve builders of ordinary models of the T-54, T-55 and T-62 series who want to study construction details on exposed machines. Stored vehicles show even what is hidden on a serviceable machine: the inner sides of the hatches, the mounting of the running gear, the structure under the plates that have fallen off and the layering of the coats of paint under the flaked finish. It is precisely this kind of reference that decides whether rust on a model will look believable or like a painted stain. The package contains no modeling parts or decals; it is printed photographic documentation.
