Unfitted Freight Grey, a shade for British railroad vehicles

Unfitted Freight Grey is a modeling paint from a coherent Lifecolor range devoted entirely to the finishes of British railroad vehicles. The name of the shade is aimed at the gray of freight cars. The range is built as a whole, so a palette for a complete train can be put together from it and the tone does not have to be found by trial mixing of universal colors.

What the shade covers

Gray is rewarding on freight cars in the way it readily takes further work. On its own it is unassertive, but precisely for that reason every additional intervention stands out on it: dust, running rust, wear around the doors and the fading of the upper surfaces. Modelers therefore like to take it as a base on which to build. It finds use on the sheet-metal and planked sides of cars, on frames and on the running gear, and it works well as a unifying tone with a train made up of cars of different origins.

Recommendations for use

• Stir the contents of the package thoroughly before use, so that the shade is even.
• Work in several thin coats rather than in one heavy one.
• Try the shade on an offcut or in a less visible place first.
• Leave the gray as a base and give it expression only with the weathering that follows.
• For a whole train reach for further shades from the same railroad range.

Who the color is for

It is intended for modelers of British railroads and builders of layouts who want their freight cars tuned to one tone. It will serve just as well outside railroad subjects everywhere a neutral working gray is needed.
