This is a ready-made model flag measuring 36 by 70 mm with the British national emblem, that is, an accessory for wooden ship models. It is not a kit. The flag is fitted to the flagpole at the stern, to a mast or to the rigging according to the custom the real subject followed; on historic sailing ships there tend to be several flags on a model and each has its own place.
A flag is one of the few elements on a ship model that carries color and movement. A well-arranged flag gives a static model the impression that the ship is standing in the wind, and at the same time it states the allegiance of the vessel unambiguously. Constructo also offers further flags in its range of accessories, so a model can be fitted out according to a particular subject and period.
Wave the flag before fixing it so that it does not look like a flat scrap of paper: it is enough to wrap it around a thin roller or to draw it between your fingers and fix the shape. With a textile version, light impregnation with thinned PVA glue helps; once it has dried it holds its shape on its own. It is fixed with two or three small stitches of thin thread or with a drop of glue on the upper and lower corner; apply the glue in the smallest possible amount, so that it does not soak through to the face. Fit the flag only at the end of the build, when you will no longer be handling tools around it.
The accessory is supplied without further parts. Glue, thread and a flagpole are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
