U.S. Air-to-Air Missile Set No. 2, 1960s and 1970s (1:72, FineMolds)

An add-on set of external stores in 1:72 scale from the Japanese manufacturer FineMolds. It is not an aircraft model but a collection of injection-molded guided missiles, pylons and jamming pods meant to arm models of American combat aircraft of the 1960s and 1970s. The set contains a wide range of armament typical of that era, including the AIM-4 Falcon, AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-9 Sidewinder families in several forms and jamming pods, together with pylons and rocket launchers.

The real subject and its use

This was the standard external armament of American Cold War fighters, above all machines of the F-4 Phantom II type, but of other aircraft of the period as well. The air-to-air guided missiles (radar guided as well as infrared) and the electronic warfare jamming pods were hung on the underwing and centerline pylons. The set lets modelers complete a basic aircraft model with armament that matches the period and the type.
