The autumn variant of the German oak leaf camouflage pattern in six shades. A muted brown base, orange and rusty patches and black for the outline drawing.

The camouflage smocks of German units with the oak leaf pattern were reversible. One side played in green tones for spring and summer, the other in browns and rusts for autumn, and the soldier put on the one that suited the surrounding landscape according to the season. The six paints in this package are built for the autumn side: a muted brown as the field, orange and rusty patches in it and finally thin dark outlines, which give the pattern its characteristic drawing.
The package consists of Outlining Black, Matt Earth, Dark Brown, Brown Orange, Beige Pink and Orange Rust. The order corresponds to the way the pattern is built up on a figure: first a continuous base, then two or three sizes of patch and only at the end the outline. The pattern was printed onto the fabric, so the patches have soft edges and nowhere meet in a sharp boundary, and that is exactly what tends to be overdone most often on models.
Copying the pattern leaf by leaf makes no sense on a figure and the result looks overloaded. It is more convincing to keep the right ratio of areas and lightness and to simplify the shapes. A thin brush with a springy tip and heavily thinned paint in two passes help, because one thick stroke creates an unnatural relief on the fabric that can no longer be hidden.
The set will be appreciated even by someone who paints only part of the smock on a figure, because the autumn pattern was often worn under a gray-green blouse and was visible only on the helmet cover or on the sleeves. Even a small area has to have the right layering of colors, otherwise it looks like a random blotch.
