Basic skin tones: a brick red, a deep brown and two flesh shades. A ready-made triad for the faces and hands of figures.

The face decides whether a figure looks alive. This package offers four tones put together as a ready-made triad with a correction added: a brick red for the deepest recesses, a deep brown for shadow, a basic flesh tone for most of the area and a sunlit flesh where the light falls.
The brick red is neither a mistake nor a whim. Human skin carries blood, and in places where it is thin - around the nostrils, on the ears, on the knuckles - the red shows through. That is exactly why faces painted with a brown shadow alone look gray and lifeless.
The transitions are made with heavily thinned paint and many layers. The faster route for gaming figures means a base, a dark wash and one highlight on the forehead, the nose and the cheekbones; a display bust will ask for ten intermediate steps or more. Both routes start from the same four pots.
What is inside: four 17 ml pots, water-thinnable acrylic paints, flat. The shades are aimed at lighter European skin; for darker types it is a good idea to add a dark brown of your own and cut back the share of the lightest tone.
Leave the eyes until the very end and make them as small as possible. The most common beginner's mistake lies in the white taking up too large an area, which gives the face a startled expression. A thin dark line where the lashes are and a mere hint of light in the inner corner look considerably more natural at normal viewing distance. Anyone who wants to be sure should photograph the finished face and look at it enlarged on a screen.
