About product

WWI German Mauve — AK interactive acrylic paint, 17 ml

The shade matches the violet gray color of the multi-color camouflage schemes of German aircraft of the First World War. It is a water-thinnable acrylic modeling paint from the Air Series aviation range, in a bottle of 17 ml. The paint is ready for airbrush and for brush application alike, it has a satin finish and a durable film, and it reaches full cure in roughly 24 hours.

Where the color is used

Violet and lilac tones are among the most characteristic features of German aircraft camouflage from the end of the First World War. They were combined with dark green and with ocher and brown patches into irregular mottled schemes, applied to the upper surfaces of the wings and the fuselage, while the undersides stayed light blue. The WWI German Mauve shade is mixed for exactly this kind of mottled camouflage and, combined with the other colors of the range, lets you put together a whole scheme without mixing your own tones. It also comes into its own when painting period national markings and when building dioramas of the period.

Use and thinning

  • It is thinned with water or with the acrylic thinner of the same brand; lacquer and enamel thinners do not belong in it.
  • For an airbrush it usually does not need further thinning, and it will handle fine lines and blends after being thinned slightly.
  • By brush it holds good covering power; let thin coats dry between applications.
  • Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles during storage.
  • It holds best on a smooth primer coat, and sealing the finished model with a varnish of the gloss level you want is recommended.

Who the paint is for

The paint is meant for modelers building aircraft of the First World War in 1:72, 1:48 and 1:32 scale, and for everyone who works with water-thinnable acrylics and wants to avoid solvent-based paints. Given that it is ready for the airbrush, beginners who are just starting out with spraying will appreciate it too.

The paint is water-thinnable and non-toxic, but even so work in a ventilated area, use respiratory protection when spraying with an airbrush, and keep it out of the reach of children.

FAQ

Water or the acrylic thinner of the same brand. Lacquer and enamel thinners do not belong in it and would curdle the paint.

The Air Series range is ready for the airbrush and usually only needs shaking. For fine lines and soft blends, thin it slightly.

The bottle holds 17 ml of paint, which on a model in a usual aircraft scale will last for many builds.

It is recommended. Acrylic holds considerably better on a primer coat, especially on photo-etch, resin and polished plastic.

Yes. The paint has good covering power and in thin coats it can be used for small repairs and for national markings.
