X-12 Gold Leaf Paint Marker

What the marker pen can do

This is a modeling marker pen filled with paint in a gold shade that the manufacturer carries under the designation X-12 Gold Leaf. It is applied straight from the tip, so there is no palette, no mixing and no washing a brush. It finds use everywhere a brush is needlessly large or unruly: on trim strips and edging, decorative stripes, fittings, handles, the small equipment of figures and in repairing places where the paint has been scuffed. The shade does not depend on the scale, so one marker pen will serve you on a small model and a large one alike.

How to work with it

Shake the marker pen well before work; shades of this type tend to have a coarser pigment that settles at the bottom. Then press the tip lightly onto a spare surface a few times until the paint comes through into the fiber, and only then move on to the model. Press lightly and rather repeat the stroke once it has dried than squeeze a puddle onto the surface. For cleaning, use the thinner that the manufacturer states on the packaging for this range.

Building and painting tips

Gold shades stand out on a smooth and preferably glossy surface; on a rough surface the gloss is broken up and the area comes across more like an ocher color. Sand the place down and degrease it beforehand. When you need a thin line or a precise edge, squeeze a little paint out of the tip onto a palette and apply it from there with a brush. After work, wipe the tip and close the marker pen carefully, otherwise it will dry out.
