X-22 Clear (Enamel)

Tamiya X-22 Clear (Enamel) — clear gloss varnish, 10 ml

Do not confuse it: X-22 Clear is not a paint but a clear gloss varnish from the Tamiya enamel (synthetic) range with a volume of 10 ml. It is entirely transparent and has no covering power; applied to a model it does not repaint it but only gives it a gloss surface and a protective layer. It is a solvent-based product that is thinned and cleaned with X-20 thinner (without the letter A). Do not confuse it with the acrylic version of the same number, which is thinned with X-20A.

Use

• A gloss base beneath decals — on a smooth gloss a decal does not silver (no matte veil forms around the motif).
• Sealing decals in — clear coating a decal once dry, so that it blends with the surface and its edge is not visible.
• A protective layer between paint and the next steps, which protects the finish from a wash, pigments and handling.
• A final gloss coat where the surface is meant to be glossy (cars, motorcycles, painted areas).
• It is applied with an airbrush and with a brush; for spraying it is thinned with X-20 thinner and applied in several thin coats.

Who the varnish is for

For modelers who work with decals and need a dependable gloss intermediate coat, and for builders of cars and motorcycles, where a gloss surface is part of the result. Enamels are the classic medium for washes and panel lines over cured acrylic, and X-22 serves as a protective layer before a wash is applied. If you are looking for a paint with coverage, this product is not one.

The varnish is a flammable liquid with organic solvents. It irritates the airways, so work in a well-ventilated area and use respiratory protection when spraying. Keep out of the reach of children and away from sources of ignition. The varnish is supplied on its own; thinner is not included in the package.
