XF-20 Medium Grey 10ml

Tamiya XF-20 Medium Grey (Enamel) — matte enamel paint, 10 ml

This product is a modeling paint, not a kit. It is an enamel (synthetic, solvent-based) paint from Tamiya in a 10 ml bottle, with a matte surface — that is what the XF designation states. The shade is a medium, neutral gray; among other things the manufacturer recommends it for the lower surfaces of British aircraft. The same shade number also exists in an acrylic (water-thinnable) version — this item is an ENAMEL, so do not confuse them.

Use

• Suitable for airbrush and brush. Stir the bottle properly before you take paint out.
• Tamiya X-20 enamel thinner serves for thinning (without the letter A — X-20A is for acrylics). For spraying the manufacturer gives a guide ratio of 2 parts of thinner to 10 parts of paint.
• It holds on plastic, metal and wood. Enamels level well under the brush and leave less visible strokes than acrylics.
• A medium gray is an ideal base for mixing — from one bottle you can shift the shade toward a darker and a lighter variant, and it also suits preshading panel lines.
• If you are going to apply decals to an area, give it a gloss clear coat first: on matte, air is held under the decal and the decal silvers. Choose a clear coat compatible with enamel — the manufacturer warns that nitrocellulose lacquer should not be applied over an enamel.

How it differs from similar shades

Compared with XF-19 Sky Grey, XF-20 is darker and more neutral. Do not confuse it with XF-21 Sky at all — XF-21 is not a gray but the British light greenish shade Sky.

Who the paint is for

For aircraft modelers (lower surfaces, British schemes), for builders of military and civilian vehicles, for figure painters and for anyone who needs a universal medium gray for mixing, shading and base areas.

Safety: a flammable liquid; it irritates the airways. Use in a well-ventilated space, with respiratory protection when spraying. Keep out of the reach of children and away from open flame.
