Tamiya XF-8 Flat Blue (Enamel), 10 ml

A modeling paint from the Tamiya enamel (synthetic) range, a bottle of 10 ml. The prefix XF means a matte shade (the gloss shades carry the designation X), so XF-8 dries to a rich blue matte with no sheen. An important distinction: this is an enamel, that is a solvent-based paint, which has to be thinned with X-20 thinner. The acrylic version with the same shade number is water-thinnable and uses X-20A — they are two separate products that should not be confused or mixed with each other. You are buying a paint, not a kit.

Use

• Aircraft camouflage and undersurfaces, naval elements and accessories, uniforms of figures, small blue details on vehicles.
• Suitable for airbrush and brush; for the airbrush it is thinned with X-20 thinner, and the manufacturer recommends roughly 2 parts thinner to 10 parts paint as a starting point.
• The matte finish is an ideal base for washes and drybrushing — blue under a wash draws out the detail nicely.
• An enamel base is the classic medium for washes and panel lines applied over a cured acrylic layer.
• Enamels dry more slowly than acrylics, which makes it easier to spread them evenly with a brush over larger areas and on figures.

Safety: flammable. It irritates the respiratory tract — use in a well-ventilated area and with respiratory protection when spraying. Keep out of the reach of children. Never apply cellulose (lacquer) paints over an enamel layer.
