A kit of the Japanese Type 97 medium tank in its improved guise in 1:100 scale from Zebranomodel. The Kai designation refers to the improved version of the vehicle and Shinhoto to the new turret with a 47 mm gun, which this variant received in place of the original short weapon. The 1:100 scale means a compact model for a display case or a gaming table.
The Type 97 Chi-Ha was a Japanese medium tank of the late 1930s with a riveted and welded hull, an air-cooled diesel engine and a small two-man turret. The original short gun proved inadequate against armored targets, and so a version was created with a new, roomier turret and a longer 47 mm gun. This variant became the most capable production guise of the type and in the later period made up a substantial part of the vehicles deployed.
In 1:100 scale cleanliness is crucial. Take the parts off with a sharp knife or a fine cutter, sand the parting lines down with very fine abrasive paper and work with tweezers. Choose the glue to suit the material of the parts: thin cement for plastic suits plastic, cyanoacrylate glue suits resin. Apply a thin primer before painting, so that the small details are not lost. Spray the base shade in thin coats and keep the patina restrained: one discreet wash into the recesses, a gentle emphasis of the edges with a dry brush and light dust on the running gear. Heavy patina visually blinds a small model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
