1:1000 K-S 2 Na kote is a small model of a structure of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications in 1:1000 scale from the Czech publisher ROP o.s. It belongs to an extensive collector's range of individual fortification structures.

A model of one particular structure of the Czechoslovak border fortifications in 1:1000 scale. That scale sets the whole character of the product: a fortification structure that in reality measures around twenty meters comes out as a model two centimeters across. It is therefore not a large display kit but a miniature that can be set side by side in greater numbers, building up a whole stretch of the defensive line step by step. ROP o.s. carries a whole range of dozens of structures in this scale, which follow on from one another in numbering and in location.
The designation K-S 2 refers to a structure of the heavy fortifications in the Kraliky sector; the pair of letters before the number marks the sector and the number the order of the structure within it. The cover name Na kote, meaning at the spot height, is a period designation of the kind the individual structures received during construction in the second half of the 1930s. Structures of this type formed a continuous line in which neighboring works covered one another with fire, which is why it makes sense to collect them by sectors and set them up in a continuous group rather than singly.
In 1:1000 scale you are working with a very small object, so it pays to prepare a base before you start painting. Wash the casting first in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry, so that the paint holds. Apply a thin coat of base and handle the concrete with a light gray and a dry brush on the edges; a dark wash will run into the seams and bring out at once a shape that would otherwise be lost. Complete the terrain around the structure with fine sand and static grass of a matching length; coarse material would give the scale away immediately. It pays to allow for a label with the designation of the structure from the start.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
