About product

1:1000 R-H-S 78 Na pasece - the casemate for a rotating artillery turret

A model of a work of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications in 1:1000 scale from the Czech maker ROP o.s. The subject is the work R-H-S 78 Na pasece of the Hanicka artillery fortress in the Orlicke Mountains, built as a casemate for a rotating artillery turret. The model captures the characteristic low, heavily buried shape of the work with the circular shaft for the turret and the way it is set into the terrain.

The real subject

The Hanicka fortress belongs to the system of heavy fortifications that Czechoslovakia was building in the second half of the 1930s. The Na pasece work was concreted in September 1937 and together with the artillery casemate it formed the pair of main fighting works of the fortress. In the end, however, the rotating artillery turret was never installed in any of the Czechoslovak fortresses, so this casemate too remained without its main weapon. That is exactly why the work looks inconspicuous at first sight - only a small part of it rises above the terrain and the main mass is underground.

Building and painting tips

A model in such a small scale does not rest on a large number of parts but on a clean surface and a convincing setting in the terrain. Sand the surfaces gently before painting, take off the flash and fill the gaps. A light gray base captures the concrete surface, over which a dark wash brings out the joints and the shadows, and a dry brush then picks out the edges. Darken the shaft for the turret so that it does not look flat. Because the work is low, it pays to spend time on the surrounding terrain - the slope and the low growth around the model do more for the overall impression than detail on the concrete itself.

Who the model is for

  • anyone interested in Czechoslovak fortifications and in fortress works
  • builders of terrain models and overview dioramas
  • museums, information centers and educational displays
  • collectors who put together the works of the Hanicka fortress in one scale

The model is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue, a base and terrain materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

There was not. The casemate was built for a turret, but the rotating artillery turret was never installed in any of the Czechoslovak fortresses.

The manufacturer does not state the exact dimensions. In 1:1000 scale a work measuring several tens of meters corresponds to a few centimeters.

No, it is supplied unpainted. Paints and terrain materials are not included in the package.

The main mass of fortress works is underground. Only the fighting part rises above the terrain, and with a turret casemate very little of it at that.
