The engine set for the C-5B Galaxy in 1:144 scale from Metallic Details is a cast resin accessory that replaces the engine nacelles of the plastic model with more faithful castings. Intended kit: Roden.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory set, not an aircraft model. It replaces the engine nacelles of the plastic model of the C-5B Galaxy transport with castings that have finer surface detail, a well worked out intake and an exhaust nozzle. On this aircraft the nacelles are among the most prominent features, so they make a marked difference to the finished model. The castings are shaped for the Roden kit.
The C-5 Galaxy is one of the largest transport aircraft in the world. The C-5B version followed the original series as a later production standard with revised equipment and a longer airframe life. Power comes from four turbofan engines slung on pylons under the wing; their bulky nacelles with deep intakes form a distinctive part of the aircraft's outline.
Wash the parts first in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw rather than with sprue cutters and level the surface with sanding paper; protect your airways while sanding. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and for larger mating surfaces a thicker gel with a longer working time is useful. Always test the fit on the pylon dry first and adjust the seating slightly if needed. Paint resin over a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold. Metallic shades on the nozzle only come out well on a perfectly smoothed surface, so give yourself time to prepare it.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
