A resin set of CFM56-5B engine nacelles for the Airbus A319 and A320 in 1:144 scale from the manufacturer LACI. A detail accessory for building the narrow-body Airbus with the later version of the engine.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin accessory for building the narrow-body Airbus in 1:144 scale. It replaces the engine nacelle from a kit with a casting with a more accurate profile of the intake and a more cleanly rendered cowling. The set is a replacement part; it does not make up a model of the aircraft.
The CFM56-5B is the later version of the engine for the family of narrow-body Airbus aircraft. Compared with the original variant it was given a modified core and combustion chamber and above all a much wider range of thrust, thanks to which it covered the heavier and longer members of the family as well, not just the basic version. Here too is the answer to the question why several engines are met with on one type of aircraft: a carrier chose the power rating according to the takeoff weight, the length of the routes and the conditions at the airports it flew to. In external shape the two versions differ only in details, but for a modeler who is building a particular machine of a particular airline, the choice of the right set is the difference between a faithful build and merely an approximate one. The installation stays typically Airbus, a circular nacelle with no flattening underneath, slung on a pylon extended ahead of the leading edge of the wing, with the axis of the engine slightly inclined.
Before any work, wash the casting in lukewarm water with dish soap; otherwise residue of the mold release agent will prevent paint from adhering. Cut the pour blocks away with a saw and finish with a file. Resin sands differently from plastic, it is softer and material goes faster, so work wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued exclusively with super glue. Check the joint with the pylon and the alignment of the nacelle dry, then fill the gap with super glue with a filler and sand it over. Paint the inside of the intake and the fan cone before you close the assembly up.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a resin casting for more experienced modelers. Glue, paints and a base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
