This is a sheet of decals for models of the Ilyushin Il-18 airliner in 1:144 scale from the Hungarian brand HAD models, that is, an accessory and not a kit. This sheet covers the later period of service with Malév, that is, the 1970s and 1980s. Against the older schemes, later liveries tend to be simpler in layout, but they place higher demands on the accuracy of placing the lettering, because it runs along longer straight sections of the fuselage.
The Il-18 stayed in service unusually long — the four-engine turboprop layout with Ivchenko AI-20 engines was robust and economical on short and medium routes. By the 1970s and 1980s it was already giving way to jet types with many carriers, but a number of machines carried on in cargo and charter service. The Hungarian carrier Malév was among the long-standing European operators of the type, and its appearance of the day is easy for modelers of civil aircraft to recognize.
The fuselage surfaces of airliners are partly in a bare metal shade — decals are applied to a metallic finish more carefully, because the surface is sensitive both to fingerprints and to pressure from a cotton bud. Before decaling, therefore, coat the model with a thin gloss varnish, which protects the metal and lets the film adhere. Lift the designs out of the water with tweezers by the edge of the carrier film, never by the printed part. Align the lettering along the fuselage against a fixed reference point — the rows of windows or the dividing lines of the scheme. Once it is dry, let the model rest and only then lay on the final varnish in the degree of sheen you want.
