This resin set of the Quickboost brand from the Czech manufacturer Aires brings faithfully cast wing barrels and a pitot tube for a model of the Soviet Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik attack aircraft in 1:72 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers that replaces the thicker and easily broken plastic parts with crisp, slender castings with the correct profile.
The Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik was a Soviet single-engine attack aircraft with an armored fuselage, a key machine for supporting ground troops during the Second World War. In the leading edges of the wings it carried cannon and machine guns, complemented by further weapons; the small sensing tube on the wing served to measure the speed.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that any mold release residue is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), not with plastic cement. Work carefully with the small barrels and the tube, because they are fragile.
The set is supplied as a resin part, unassembled and unpainted. It is not an airplane model but an accessory for a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
