An accessory set concentrated on the inside of the car. The name assigns it to the kit from the firm Fujimi in 1:24 scale, so the dimensions and shapes are based on that particular plastic. The interior is one of the places on car models where injection-molded plastic runs up against its limits: thin elements cannot be got into a mold finely enough and flat printing is no substitute for real shape.

The real subject

The Ferrari 550 Maranello was presented in 1996 and marked the marque's return to a front-mounted engine in a two-seat flagship. A V12 sat under the long hood, and the gearbox was moved back to the rear axle for the sake of weight distribution. The number in the name refers to the displacement, the second part of the name to the town where the marque is based. The car is still valued as one of the last Ferraris with the classic combination of a long nose, a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive.

Building tips

• Fit the set while the inside is accessible, that is before the body is joined to the floor.
• Lay the parts on dry first and check where plastic has to be removed from the kit.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the remainder down.
• Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
• Choose the glue according to the material of the parts; small accessories are held reliably by cyanoacrylate glue in minute drops.
