The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The 1:200 scale makes Arizona an exceptionally large model — that is at once its main strength and its main demand: a large hull will carry a level of detail that smaller scales do not allow, but it calls for workshop space, a plan of the procedure and a place for storage thought out in advance.
USS Arizona was a battleship of the Pennsylvania class, that is a standard American battleship of the so-called generation with 14 inch guns in triple turrets. By 1941 the ship had gone through modernizations that markedly changed her silhouette against her original state from the First World War: a reworked superstructure, the arrangement of the masts, added light and antiaircraft armament and a modified layout of the deck. It is precisely the year 1941 in the name that determines which of these modifications the model captures.
With a large hull the order of the work is the key thing. Glue the hull, stiffen it and check that it is straight before you start on the superstructures — on a long part every sag shows up later. Paint the deck with its wooden planked surface separately from the metal surfaces and mask it before spraying the hull. Fit photo-etch such as railings and ladders only after the main painting and clear coating. With a standard meant for radio control the build differs in that the watertightness of the hull, the mounting of the drive and the access inside are dealt with in advance, so study the whole procedure from the instructions before you glue the first part — once the hull is closed, some steps can no longer be undone. Reckon on the model as a long-term project, not as a weekend.
