The plastic kit from the French manufacturer Heller in 1:24 scale captures the Citroen type H utility vehicle, known by the designation HY, in the configuration of a service vehicle of the marque. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a classic injection-molded polystyrene kit. The designation 57/64 in the name refers to the configuration of the vehicle from two different years of production.
The Citroen type H is a van with front-wheel drive and an unmistakable corrugated sheet body, built from the late 1940s for more than three decades. The low floor without longitudinal members allowed easy loading, which made the vehicle an ordinary part of the streets in France and elsewhere in Europe: it served as a bakery van, a mobile shop, an ambulance and a service vehicle. Its popularity is owed to its practical design and long production run rather than to its performance.
A body of corrugated sheet is the main theme of the whole build, so give it the greatest attention. Sand the joint lines back carefully and along the direction of the corrugations, so that they stay sharp; coarse sanding rounds them off and the model suddenly looks as if it were made of modeling clay. Lay a thin base under the paint, which will show up any scratches. Anyone who wants the look of a utility vehicle in service can, after a gloss coat and the decals, add a fine wash in the hollows of the corrugations and light dust on the fenders. Glue the glazing in at the very end and with thin cement for transparent parts, as ordinary cement for plastic would fog it.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
