A set of masks for the cockpit of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 in the large 1:24 scale. It covers the domed canopy from the outside and from the reverse and holds four sets of masks for national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
When the Jumo 213 V engine was built into the airframe of the Focke-Wulf, the aircraft grew by more than a meter and gained the characteristic pointed nose with an annular radiator, which confuses many people to this day into taking it for a radial engine. The cockpit stayed from the short-nosed version, that is set low and covered by a domed canopy with practically no bars. Glazing like that causes the greatest difficulty when building in one twenty-fourth, because the mask has to follow a curved edge exactly without a single straight guide line.
The cut parts are applied in two layers. The outer copies the narrow metal rim around the sliding section and the frame of the windscreen, the inner goes on the reverse so that the canopy does not look like a bare piece of plastic when hinged open. It is on curved cockpits in particular that a hand-cut tape substitute most often fails, because tape creases in a curve and lifts the edge.
In the package there are four sets of masks for national insignia. The cross on the side of a Dora's fuselage lies across several panels and across small raised parts, so the sprayed variant tends to be cleaner than a decal, which readily ripples in such a place. The set is intended for building a model; the plastic parts and the paint shades are not in it. It is worth mentioning that the late Doras often carried simplified markings in various sizes, so before spraying it pays to compare the size of the mask with a period photograph of the machine the builder wants to build.
