This set of self-adhesive Montex masks in 1:24 scale is intended for a model of the Junkers Ju 87B-2 dive bomber. According to the name it focuses on the canopy glazing, from the outside and from the inside; the name does not give masks for the national insignia, so do not expect them. It is not a model and not decals — you are buying an aid for painting, thanks to which you get clean canopy frames with no hand cutting of tape.
The Ju 87B-2 was a later production revision of the B version of this single-engine two-seat dive bomber. You will know the type by its inverted gull wing, its fixed landing gear in streamlined fairings and the long, strongly framed cockpit for the pilot and the rear crew member. Under the wings it carried dive brakes, which held the speed within acceptable limits during a dive.
The greenhouse canopy of the Ju 87 is one of the most intricate to appear on single-engine aircraft of the day, and in 1:24 scale it spreads over a large area of the model with dozens of frames. Hand-cut tape here almost always ends in uneven frame widths, which at that size shows at once. Pre-cut masks solve the problem with the accuracy of the cut and at the same time shorten the preparation from hours to tens of minutes.
Wash the clear parts in advance in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry in the air — grease from fingers is the commonest cause of paint lifting. Move a mask with tweezers, seat it and press the edge down with a rounded point. Use the inside masks before you build the canopy in: the frames are sprayed with the interior color from inside and with camouflage from outside. Lay the paint on in thin coats — on clear parts a heavy coat creates a visible step at the edge. Lift a mask while the paint has only just set, and wipe any adhesive residue off with a cotton bud and clean water; thinner would damage the glazing.
