A detail part in 1:24 scale from the Polish brand Yamamoto Model Parts. A tow hook protruding from the bumper belongs to circuit, drift and street cars of the Japanese scene alike, and on a model it is one of the details that give the sporting purpose of a car away at once. It is an accessory to a car model; the kit of the vehicle itself is not included in the package.
On racing cars a tow hook is mandatory equipment, so that a car can be towed off the track quickly after an accident. In a street build a necessity has turned into a style and the hooks tend to be deliberately conspicuous, in signal colors or with a loop. A model therefore gains credibility from the accessory and at the same time a color accent on an otherwise smooth front or rear end.
Signal colors, that is rich red, orange and neon shades, have very poor covering power. Always apply them over a white base therefore, or they will come out dark and dull on a gray base. Finish them with a gloss clear varnish, which gives the color depth. Fine wear adds credibility: go over the edges of the hook lightly with a dry brush with a steel color and lay a trace of dust pigment on the underside. A new, perfectly clean part on an otherwise weathered car looks out of place. The installation calls for some thought, because the hook is not glued onto a surface but passes through the bumper. Pre-drill the hole with a thin drill, working up gradually from the smallest diameter so that the plastic does not crack, and check before gluing that the part comes out at right angles and in the same plane as the grille or the edge of the bumper. Glue it from the inside of the bumper, so that the glue does not run out onto a painted surface, and fill any excess with a drop of filler before the paint is finished.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a kit of the vehicle. Glue, paints and further parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
