A set of photo-etched parts from the Czech maker HGW. It is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory meant to make a kit of the DH.2 biplane in 1:32 scale more accurate. The photo-etched parts replace the elements that cannot be made thin enough in injection-molded plastic: fittings, straps, clips, instrument elements and other small features of the cockpit and the airframe. The thickness of the photo-etched parts matches the real thickness of the sheet metal parts, so once the model is completed it looks substantially finer.
The 1:32 scale is large and reveals every simplification. On a First World War biplane the open cockpit and the structure of the fuselage are moreover visible right through. The photo-etched parts deal with exactly the places where a plastic part looks too heavy, and move the model a level up without having to make the parts yourself.
The DH.2 was a British single-seat fighter biplane of Geoffrey de Havilland's design, produced by the Aircraft Manufacturing Company. It had an unusual layout with a pusher propeller behind the pilot and a tail carried on booms, which made it possible to place the machine gun at the front without having to synchronize firing through the propeller. In its day it was among the types that helped the British even the balance in the air over the Western Front in 1916.
Cut the photo-etched parts off with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, do not break them out. Make the bends in a bender or between two blades, otherwise the edge will not be sharp. They are glued with cyanoacrylate applied with a pin; an excess cannot be removed. Degrease the surface before painting and use a primer for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on the photo-etched parts.
The set is an accessory; the kit of the aircraft itself is not included in the package. The parts are unpainted, and the glue and the paints are not enclosed.
