A detail set in photo-etched metal from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, aimed at the landing gear of the model of the British bomber Avro Lancaster in the B Mk.I and B Mk.III versions in 1:32 scale. The gear legs, the bays and the area around them are among the most closely watched places on a model of a large bomber, because even a casual viewer looks at them from eye level. The set is an accessory for the base model, not a kit in its own right.
In plastic the landing gear bays are usually done as a smooth tub with coarsely suggested structure. Photo-etch makes it possible to add ribs, pipe clamps, cable clips and thin stiffeners that cannot be drawn out of a mold in plastic. On the legs themselves it is mainly a matter of small brackets, covers and step elements, where the thickness of the material decides the overall impression. The result shows above all on a model on a base or in a diorama, where the landing gear cannot be hidden.
Build and paint the bays before you close the wing or the engine nacelles. A good order is primer, base shade, a wash in the recesses, and only then gluing the finest parts, so that they do not get broken during painting. The wiring can be added with thin copper wire, which goes well with photo-etch. Apply super glue in the smallest possible amount, ideally with a pin, otherwise the excess spreads over the surface and floods the engraved detail. Degrease the metal parts before painting.
