1:32 B-17B/C/D/E/F Flying Fortress wheels with weighted tires type a (GY) and photo-etched hubcaps are a resin accessory for the early versions of the Flying Fortress. It is not a model of the aircraft but a replacement for the main landing gear wheels.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set from Armory replaces the plastic main landing gear wheels with resin castings with weighted, that is flattened, tires of type a (GY) and rounds them off with photo-etched hub covers. It is intended for the early versions of the Flying Fortress, that is the B-17B, C, D, E and F. The package is not a kit of the aircraft but a detail accessory, fitted to the landing gear of a model that is already built.
The main landing gear of the B-17 retracted into the nacelles of the inner engines and the wheel stayed partly exposed, so it is conspicuous even with the gear retracted. A resin casting holds a crisper tread, a more legible sidewall and better division of the hub than a split plastic mold allows, and the parting seam in the middle of the tire falls away. A weighted tire has a flattened contact patch and slightly bulging sides, so the model sits naturally on its surface. The designation of the tire type in the name is a distinguishing detail: machines of the same version could wear different types, so compare the tread with a photograph of the particular aircraft you are building.
Wash the parts first in warm soapy water, so that any mold release residue disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife and level the surface with abrasive paper; sand resin wet and protect your airways. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is with a cyanoacrylate, as cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Shape the photo-etched hub cover lightly before fitting it, so that it seats into the recess of the hub. Paint the tire in a dark gray shade instead of pure black, and the hub in a metallic or interior shade according to the machine; a ring cut from masking tape makes the transition easier. Fine dusting around the contact patch is given by a dry pigment.
This is an accessory set, not a model of the aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package. Before you buy, check the match with the landing gear of your own model.
