A plastic kit of the Bell UH-1D transport helicopter in 1:32 scale from the German brand Revell. For a helicopter the 1:32 scale gives a noticeably larger model than the usual 1:72 or 1:48, so the glazed cockpit, the cargo compartment and the rotor system all stand out. The name on the box refers to a farewell to the type after the end of its operational service; the particular contents of the decal sheet and the color schemes offered are given in the enclosed instructions.
The UH-1D is the transport version of the Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopter, generally known by the nickname Huey. Against the earlier versions it was given a lengthened cabin with more internal room, wider sliding doors and a higher carrying capacity. A turboshaft engine provides the power, the main rotor has two blades, and the characteristic sound of its running is typical as well. The type was used to carry personnel and cargo, to evacuate the wounded and for rescue and liaison duties, and it served for decades with a great many operators around the world.
The cockpit glazing on this type is enormous, so the cleanliness of the clear parts and the masking have a decisive effect on the final impression. Cut the frames out carefully and glue the clear parts with a cement intended for clear plastic, which does not fog the surface. Assemble and paint the interior of the cargo compartment before you close the fuselage up — it will be clearly visible through the large door openings. Leave the main rotor and the tail boom removable, or glue them on only after spraying; it will make handling easier. Matte military finishes look better if a gloss varnish is applied locally under the decals and the whole is oversprayed with matte once it has dried.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
