The short-takeoff high-wing Fi 156, nicknamed the Storch, needed only a few dozen meters to lift off and could land almost on the spot. After the war a number of surviving machines were left in Central Europe, and Poland used them for liaison flights, flying training and the needs of scientific institutes well into the 1950s.
Three subjects carry the insignia of an independent liaison flight of 1948, among them the machines with the codes ZKR and R-505 and the aircraft numbered 1009. Further options are a civil-registered aircraft of 1951, a machine of the Aviation Institute in Warsaw and a white aircraft of 1954. For the military machines the documentation also gives the color combination: khaki to the FS 30118 standard on the upper surfaces and light blue FS 35526 on the lower ones. The package is completed by a die-cut mask for the glazing.
The glazed cockpit of the Storch takes up a substantial part of the fuselage, so the decals often reach right up to the frames. It pays to trim them to size and to use a soft brush rather than tweezers when settling them. The registration letters on the fuselage are long, and so they are easier to position if the carrier film is divided between the individual letters beforehand.
