A self-adhesive masking sheet for a model of the Kittyhawk IV fighter in 1:32 scale. The package holds neither plastic nor paints – it is an accessory thanks to which you spray the markings instead of sticking them on. The set is cut for one particular machine nicknamed Gloria Lyons III, so from it you get an exactly determined aircraft.
Kittyhawk IV was, in the terminology of the air forces of the British Commonwealth, the P-40N aircraft. In Australian, New Zealand and South African units it was standard equipment in the second half of the war, mainly in the fighter-bomber role over the Pacific and over the Mediterranean. The N version brought a lightened structure and a reworked rear canopy, which markedly improved the view. For a modeler it is an exceptionally rewarding type: one and the same structure carried dozens of markedly different camouflages and personal paintings, so even two models of the same version side by side look completely different.
The base is what decides. A mask holds only on a smooth and perfectly cured surface – on matte or grainy varnish the edge will not bed down and paint creeps under. So before fitting the mask, spray the model with a gloss coat and let it cure thoroughly, ideally overnight. If you are working with a light shade over a dark base under the mask, spray a thin covering white coat first; you will save yourself three or four coats of colored paint and the edge will stay thin. Once the mask has been peeled off, let the model stand again before you start on a further coat or on varnishing.
This is an accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
