The G-2 version brought the DB 605 engine and with it markedly higher performance at great altitude. It was this form of the fighter that the most successful German wings flew on the Eastern Front and in Arctic Finland, and most of the record series of victories of the first half of 1943 are linked with it.
The yellow 11 of First Lieutenant Hermann Graf of the 9th Staffel of JG 52 comes from March 1943. Next come two machines of the 6th Staffel of JG 5 operating from Finnish bases in the same month, one flown by Rudolf Müller and the other by First Lieutenant Heinrich Ehrler. The fourth option is the black 1 of the Croatian Staffel incorporated into JG 52, which you will know by its nose oversprayed in yellow. The package is completed by a mask for the cockpit frames.
The set deals only with markings, so it suits any kit of the Gustav in this scale. The advantage of a large scale is that even the small warning lettering and plates can be used, which in smaller scales merge with the surface. Before applying them it pays to rid the surface of grease from fingers, otherwise a decal will not adhere evenly in some places and the edge will lift once it is dry.
